About This Place

Original Thai Cuisine, nestled in the heart of Kailua-Kona on Kuakini Highway, is a vibrant Thai restaurant offering an authentic and richly flavored experience that transports diners straight to Southeast Asia. Specializing in Thai and broader Asian dishes, this charming spot serves an array of colorful curries, stir-fries, and satisfying noodle dishes that truly captivate the palate.

The menu is a delightful journey through Thailand’s culinary landscape. Signature dishes like the Red Curry, made with classic Central Thai red chili paste, eggplant, bamboo shoots, and fresh basil leaves swimming in creamy coconut milk, create a harmonious blend of spice and sweetness that is both comforting and invigorating. The Green Curry bursts with fragrant green chili pepper paste, while the Yellow Curry offers a milder, slightly sweet profile with potatoes and carrots, catering to varying heat preferences.

For those who appreciate vibrant, fresh flavors, the Spring Rolls and Summer Rolls provide a crisp, refreshing start to the meal, balancing lightness with texture. The legendary Chicken Pad Thai remains a crowd favorite—offering perfectly stir-fried noodles with that subtle combination of smoky tamarind and bright lime, pulling at every craving. The restaurant also pushes inventive boundaries with items like the Chicken Satay Burger, which layers familiar satay flavors into a uniquely Hawaiian fusion burger experience.

Dishes such as the Phad Khing Sod and That Spicy Garden Basil Stir Fry showcase expertly balanced spice levels, as the chefs painstakingly adjust heat to suit your personal palette, ensuring every bite is packed with just the right kick. The Mango Sticky Rice rounds off the meal with luscious tropical sweetness, a perfect counterpoint to the fiery entrees.

The dining atmosphere at Original Thai Cuisine is warm and inviting, making it an ideal destination for casual lunches or relaxed dinners. Guests frequently praise the attentive, friendly service — with staff who are not only knowledgeable but eager to customize dishes from mild to mouth-tingling spicy. Such personal touches elevate the dining experience and leave a lasting impression.

Customers rave about the creative menu and honest quality. Alisha Kamat highlights the unexpected delight of avocado fries—crispy and enjoyable, an adventurous twist on a classic side. Good food (thought won’t say the best Thai food!) The avocado fried were great! Something unheard of so we tried them. Really crispy and fun to eat! Do ask for the lunch special on weekdays - rice, egg roll and an entree. Decent quantity and good value for money! Decent service and good food.

This little Thai café is an absolute gem! First off, the service is exemplary. I was greeted by two lovely young ladies with beautiful smiles who took great care in taking my order. I asked for Pad Thai Shrimp "to go" and sat outside on a bench to wait. Imagine my pleasant surprise when the kind girl brought it out to me in only 5 minutes! Let's talk about the food: this pad thai is the ono kine! It has the thick, sweet sauce that holds beautifully to the noodles. I suspect the satisfying umami flavor comes from a generous amount of tamarind puree. One note of caution: I love spicy food, but the "medium" was almost too much for me. You may want to stick with "mild."

I want to eat here everyday it's so delicious. my 6 year old "thinks" he doesn't like Thai food so I never get it anymore but he's on a. Trip with his dad and so I've been trying all the Thai restaurants In Kona again and this has been my fave so far ! The flavors are amazing and there are so many more things I want to try but everything we ordered was sooo yummy. My two year old and my mom loved it as well. Coming back ASAP

Food was good. We got sat down at a table immediately and our server was very friendly and service was very quick. We ordered the chicken pad kee mow (drunken noodles), basil fried rice with tofu, and basil fried rice with chicken. Both basil fried rices were good other than the fact that one was super spicy and we had to send it back. Pad kee mow was a little fishy in flavor but overall delicious.

Good customer service. The staff was very clear and nice in taking orders. She thoroughly asked us details about how spicy we would like for each meals we ordered. And she wears a nice smile I had Pad Thai and it was good. We are satisfied with the customer service and the food. Thank you!
